Mounties Close the Season with an Overtime Thriller
[Sackville, NB]
The Mount Allison University Mounties ended their 2025–26 campaign on the best possible note Saturday night, defeating UPEI Panthers 4–3 in overtime at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre.
In front of a lively home crowd, the Mounties left everything on the ice in what marked the final game of the season and, for two seniors, the final game of their AUS careers.
A Dream Start
It was only fitting that graduating senior Chelsea Krahenbil opened the scoring. At 11:32 of the first period, Krahenbil capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity, striking unassisted to give the Mounties an early spark.
Just minutes later, she added an assist on a power-play marker from Clare Munro, helping Mount Allison jump out to a commanding 3–0 first-period lead. Defenseman Gracie Bagnall-Dubras capped off the opening frame with her first career AUS goal, a moment she'll never forget, finishing a play set up by Munro and Emily Daniels.
After 20 minutes, the Mounties had built a cushion through discipline, timely scoring, and a relentless work ethic.
Battling Through Adversity
UPEI pushed back in the second and third periods, tying the game 3–3 despite being outworked early. The Panthers fired 47 shots on goal throughout the night, but Mount Allison netminder Skye McDonald stood tall, turning aside 44 shots in a stellar performance between the pipes.
Even as momentum shifted, the Mounties stayed composed. This group has battled all season long, and in their final game, that resilience defined them.
A Storybook Finish
Overtime was the perfect stage for another first.
At 2:40 of the extra frame, Jenna Wiebe buried her first career AUS goal, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Set up by graduating senior Alisha Donovan, who recorded the final assist of her Mount Allison career, and Clare Munro, Wiebe's winner sealed a meaningful 4–3 victory.
For Donovan, contributing the primary assist on the game-winning goal was a poetic ending to her time in a Mounties uniform.
Ending on the Right Note
This season tested the Mounties in many ways, but Saturday night was a reminder of what this team is about: heart, growth, and pride in wearing the maroon and gold.
Chelsea Krahenbil opened the scoring in her final AUS game.
Gracie Bagnall-Dubras and Jenna Wiebe scored the first goals of their AUS careers.
Alisha Donovan recorded one last assist for Mount Allison.
It was a night of milestones, gratitude, and celebration.
The Mounties may be closing the chapter on this season, but they did so united, resilient, and victorious, a meaningful win that will carry momentum into the future.
A good game.
A great crowd.
And the perfect way to finish.
