Mount Allison Earns Gritty 2–1 Victory Over Dalhousie on Parents and Alumni Weekend
SACKVILLE, NB — In front of a lively Parents and Alumni Weekend crowd at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre, the Mount Allison Mounties delivered their most complete performance of the season, grinding out a well‑earned 2–1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday night.
Second‑year forward Reese Chuback was the star of the evening, scoring both Mounties goals — one in the second period and the eventual game‑winner just one minute after Dalhousie tied the contest in the third.
Her first came at 12:00 of the second period, finishing off a clean passing play from Jenna Wiebe and Hailey Simoneau to break the scoreless deadlock and ignite the home crowd.
After Dalhousie's Ava Boyle tied the game at 9:54 of the third period, the Tigers briefly grabbed momentum — but Chuback responded immediately. She buried her second of the night on a setup from Chelsea Krahenbil and Gracie Bagnall‑Dubras, restoring the Mounties' lead for good.
Rookie goaltender Silia Gregg earned her first U SPORTS victory with a calm, composed performance between the pipes, stopping 26 of 27 shots. Her steadiness in the third period was crucial as Dalhousie pressed for an equalizer.
Gregg was named the Second Star of the game, while Chuback claimed First Star honours.
Mount Allison held a 30–27 shot advantage, showcasing puck movement and sustained pressure. The Mounties' penalty kill was flawless, going 3-for-3, and although the power play didn't convert, it generated momentum throughout the night.
Faceoff control was also a key factor, with centers Wiebe and Krahenbil combining for 22 draws won to help the Mounties maintain possession.
With generations of Mount Allison supporters in attendance, the atmosphere was electric from puck drop to final buzzer. Each goal celebration was met with a roar, and every defensive stand drew loud appreciation from the stands.
For a young Mounties team looking to build confidence and push forward, this first win of the season couldn't have come on a better night — or in front of a better crowd.
