The Mount Allison Mounties opened the 2016-2017 ACAA women's basketball season with a 62-61 loss to the St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday. After finding themselves in an early hole the Mounties came storming back in the 2nd half but came just short in the comeback bid.
The Tommies, who were led by Jessica Patenaude with 17 points, built up a 36-23 lead by halftime. The Mounties surged back in the 2nd half and actually led 61-58 with 1 minute remaining but the Tommies scored the final 4 points of the game to grab the win.
Mounties junior Erin Steeves led all scorers, going 9 of 16 from the field for 20 points. Steeves also had 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Sophomore Kiersten Mangold chipped in with 10 points and 6 points for the Mounties. Sara Banks added 13 points for the Tommies.
