Championship Composure on Display as Mounties Outlast Dal Rams
(Sackville, NB)
The Mount Allison Mounties once again showed why they are the reigning ACAA champions, grinding out a hard-fought four-set win over the Dalhousie Rams on Sunday afternoon at McCormack Gymnasium.
While the crowd was smaller than the electric White-Out atmosphere the day before, the intensity on the court more than made up for it. Dalhousie brought a disciplined and physical presence, using their height effectively at the net to generate consistent blocks and slow the Mounties' offence. The Rams' defensive structure kept rallies long and forced Mount Allison to earn every point.
After dropping the opening set, the Mounties settled in and responded with the poise that comes from championship experience. Set two proved to be a turning point, as Mount Allison edged out a tight 29–27 battle, swinging momentum back to the home side. From there, the Mounties steadily asserted control, closing out the match with 25–23 and 25–22 wins in the third and fourth sets to secure the 3–1 victory.
Offensively, Mount Allison relied on a balanced and resilient attack. Mya Artibello led the way with 19 kills, while Chloe Palmer added 18 kills and delivered timely swings in key moments. Setter Ana McCain guided the offence with 32 assists and chipped in defensively, helping the Mounties stay composed under pressure. In the backcourt, Mount Allison's floor defence was relentless, finishing with 122 total digs as a team, a testament to their persistence against a strong Dalhousie attack.
Dalhousie's height and defensive execution posed challenges throughout the afternoon, but when it mattered most, the Mounties leaned on their identity as champions. Their ability to stay patient, adjust, and execute in crucial moments ultimately revealed their true strength.
With the win, Mount Allison improves to 11–3 on the season and continues to build momentum as one of the teams to beat in the ACAA. The Mounties will look to carry this championship-level focus forward as the season progresses.
