Mounties Feed Off Packed McCormack Crowd in Straight-Sets Win
(Sackville, NB)
The Mount Allison Mounties delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping UKC in straight sets (25–14, 25–12, 25–15) at a packed McCormack Gymnasium. From the opening serve, the Mounties were fueled by an electric home crowd made up of local supporters, students, and fellow Mount Allison student-athletes, creating an environment that could be felt on every point.
The energy in the building reached another level with the arrival of the Mount Allison football team, whose presence and vocal support ignited both the bench and the stands. Their enthusiasm resonated throughout the gym and reinforced the strong sense of Mountie pride and unity that defined the afternoon.
On the court, Mount Allison was sharp and disciplined, hitting an efficient .309 as a team while holding UKC to a negative hitting percentage. The Mounties steadily built momentum across all three sets, increasing their offensive efficiency each time and never allowing the visitors to settle into a rhythm.
Offensively, Mya Artibello led the way with nine kills on an impressive. 467 hitting percentage, while Chloe Palmer added eight kills and Sarah Mason contributed seven, along with four service aces. Kaia MacDougall made her presence felt from the service line with seven aces, consistently putting pressure on the UKC reception and creating scoring opportunities.
The Mounties' defensive effort was equally strong, anchored by Ruby McCormick, who recorded 24 assists to keep the offense flowing smoothly, and a team effort that produced 36 digs overall. At the net, Mount Allison controlled play and limited UKC's attacking options, allowing the Mounties to dictate the tempo from start to finish.
With the straight-sets victory, Mount Allison improves to 8–3 on the season and continues to build confidence as the second half of the schedule approaches. More than just a win, Saturday's match showcased the strength of the Mount Allison community, one voice, one crowd, and one team moving forward together.
