Strong Start to 2026 as Mounties WBB Top MSVU at McCormack
(Sackville, NB)
The Mounties opened the 2026 calendar year with a confident and well-rounded home victory, defeating MSVU 61–47 in front of a packed McCormack Gymnasium. After a tight opening quarter, Mount Allison took control in the second, outscoring MSVU 29–18 to swing momentum decisively in their favor. The Mounties' defensive intensity set the tone, holding MSVU to 32.8 percent shooting from the field and just 16.7 percent from three-point range.
Offensively, Mount Allison displayed strong balance and depth, finishing the night with 11 made three-pointers while shooting 37.3 percent from the field. Grace Tilley led all Mounties with 15 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Ava Godfrey provided an immediate spark off the bench with 11 points, including key perimeter shots that helped stretch the floor. Danielle Alexander was efficient in her minutes, scoring 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Sadie Bowen added seven points and five rebounds as Mount Allison won the rebounding battle, 34–30.
On the defensive end, the Mounties were active and disruptive, recording eight steals, two blocks, and forcing 15 MSVU turnovers. That pressure was amplified by the atmosphere inside McCormack Gymnasium, where students, local supporters, and fellow Mountie athletes filled the stands and brought sustained energy throughout the evening. The crowd's presence was felt during key stretches, particularly during the second-quarter run that allowed Mount Allison to separate.
With a strong performance to open the new year, the Mounties set a positive tone moving forward and will look to build consistency as conference play continues. If the energy inside McCormack Gymnasium on Saturday night is any indication, Mount Allison can expect continued momentum and strong home-court support as the season progresses.
