Womens Basketball Mounties announce first recruit for 2021 2022 season
Our Mounties women's basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Kaitlyn Simard to their roster, for the 2021-2022 season.
Joining the Mounties from Timmins, Ontario, Kaitlyn played the last two seasons with the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association; for Lo-Ellen Park Prep Basketball team in Sudbury. At Mount Allison University, she will be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
"Kaitlyn brings a strong pedigree from playing with and against some of the best players in the country," said the Mounties head coach, Ryan Chase. He also noted 'she is used to training and competing at a very high level and we feel that experience will allow her to fit in well right away and is a welcome addition to our program.'
With the current landscape of recruiting very different, the normal visits and process are simply not possible. When Kaitlyn was asked about the decision to join Mount Allison Mounties, Kaitlyn said the following: "In 2019, I had the opportunity to go visit the east coast with my basketball team and really liked the people and cities I visited. Although I didn't have the opportunity to tour the school during the recruiting process, Coach Chase sent me the virtual tour and the video of the women's basketball team so my family and I watched it and really liked the campus and how the team interacted with each other."
As the Mounties continue to build out their roster Coach Chase said that he is excited for what Kaitlyn can bring to the team. "Kaitlyn will give us versatility at the wing position. She is a very active defender, an extremely willing passer, and has the ability to score in multiple ways. Most of all we love her demeanor, attitude, and character. Countless people that we spoke with had such positive things to say about her and I think our group is going to absolutely love playing with Kaitlyn and having her as a teammate."
As a first-year student athlete, Kaitlyn is looking forward to the opportunity that lies ahead. Kaitlyn said "my goals for my first year are to work hard at good grades, developing relationships with my new teammates and coaches while contributing to the team in a meaningful way. I look forward to being challenged both in the classroom and on the court."
Please join us in welcoming Kaitlyn to our Mounties Family!
