Mounties welcome Jillian Mumford to the program for 2021-22 season
The Mount Allison women's basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Jillian Mumford to its roster, for the 2021-2022 season. Jillian is a Grade 12 student at Bowness High School in Calgary, Alberta; where she's also a member of the varsity Trojans' program. She has also been a member of the highly-regarded Calgary Basketball Academy; where she represented multiple club teams over the years.
JillIan will pursue a Bachelor's of Science at Mount Allison University.
The Mounties are certainly excited to be adding a player of Jillian's calibre. "We couldn't be happier that Jillian chose MtA and she is going to bring a great mix of physicality and versatility to our lineup," said Mount Allison head coach, Ryan Chase. "She rebounds, defends the paint and can stretch the floor on the offensive end. These traits will be extremely valuable for our program moving forward."
When asked about coming East, Jillian explained "I wanted to explore the East Coast and learn more about a lifestyle and culture that is different from where I'm from. Once I had Mount Allison in mind, and it fit my academic direction, I was able to talk to some of my parent's friends, who are alumni of MtA, they had great experiences and recommended the school."
Although Jillian missed out on an opportunity to visit the East Coast last summer with her basketball team, she stayed determined to get that experience. "I was so happy to make a good connection with the coaches and players. In the end, I get to attend a top university in Atlantic Canada and an opportunity to play basketball with a great group of people and coaches!"
"Jillian is enthusiastic, outgoing, and not afraid of new challenges. We're excited for the opportunity that awaits her. We can't wait to have her energy and passion on campus this fall," added Coach Chase.
Jillian certainly shared those sentiments and looks forward to September. "My hopes and goals for this year are to explore my academic strengths and interests and get to the next level with my basketball! I love meeting new people and having new experiences, so being at Mount Allison, playing for the women's basketball team, and being far from home, seems like I will get to do just that and much more!"
Please join us in welcoming Jillian to our Mounties Family!
