Mounties Fall Just Short Against #5 Ranked Sainte Foy
The Mount Allison Mounties once again showed they can run with the top teams in the country on Friday, this time dropping a close 69-61 decision to Sainte Foy, Quebec. The Mounties, who led 31-29 at halftime, trailed by as few as 4 points late in the game but they were unable to complete the comeback.
The Mounties trailed 15-12 after the first quarter but a strong 2nd quarter gave the garnet and gold a slim lead heading into the halftime break. Sainte Foy came out strong in the third quarter and while the Mounties kept it close the whole second half, the #5 ranked Dynamiques were able to steer home the victory.
The Mounties were led by 3rd year guard Maddyson MacDonald from Riverview, NB. MacDonald led all Mounties with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and was named player of the game for her team. Taylor-Rae Cote had 11 points for the Mounties while freshman Lauren MacEachern chipped in with 10 points.
The Mounties will now face the host Vancouver Island University Mariners at 6PM Atlantic for the 7th/8th place game.
