Gaiters Beat Mounties to Open AUS Season

(Sackville, NB) The Bishop's Gaiters were in Sackville on Saturday, taking on the Mount Allison Mounties in AUS Football action.

Bishop's came out strong with some great quarterback play and some timely defensive stops. Quarterback Justin Quirion led the way for the visitors with 5 passing touchdowns and 367 yards through the air. Joey Julien was the leading receiver for Bishop's with 104 yards and a touchdown. O'Shae Ho-Sang rushed for 99 yards.

Mount Allison were able to hang tough most of the game. The Mounties made some big plays on both sides of the ball, including a huge interception in the endzone by Kirk Jean-Baptiste, and a second one by linebacker Zachary Finucan. Quarterback Spencer Joudry threw for 192 yards and a touchdown for the Mounties. Nolan Cheeseman caught the touchdown pass on a 39-yard catch-and-run off a flea flicker. Sam Bawa was the leading rusher for Mount Allison with 39 yards on the ground.

The visitors were able to pull away late, with the final score 43-7 for Bishop's.

Bishop's (1-0) is on a bye next week. Mount Allison (0-1) is back at home to take on the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday, August 30th at 2pm.
