(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties returned to Alumni Field for the final time during the 2024 season as they welcomed the St. Francis Xavier X-Men under a beautiful fall day in Sackville.
Mount Allison would take an early 3-0 lead thanks to a rouge on the opening kickoff followed by a StFX safety shortly after. The visitors would respond later in the first quarter however as a 5-play 77-yard drive was capped off with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Silas Fagnan to Caleb Tremblay to put the visitors ahead 7-3. The X-Men would add a 32-yard field goal from Ben Hadley before the quarter was out to lead by a touchdown, 10-3, at the end of the first.
The respective kickers were the story of the second quarter as Ben Hadley of StFX and Beynon McKeen of Mount Allison would both convert on 2 field goals each in the quarter – Hadley from 25 and 27 and McKeen from 19 and 31 – to keep it a one-score game heading into the break, with StFX ahead 16-9.
St. Francis Xavier would find the endzone first however as Antonio Corsi caught a 1-yard pass from Silas Fagnan to extend the visitors lead to 23-9 with just over 4 minutes to play in the third quarter. Hadley would add another field goal before the quarter was out as the X-Men broke the score open to 26-7 at the end of three quarters.
The final quarter would bring a 20-yard field goal from Ben Hadley within the three minute warning as the final points of the game and StFX took this one by a score of 29-7.
