The Mount Allison women's basketball Mounties are off and running in the young ACAA basketball season, having collected 5 straight wins to start the year. The Mounties, who sit in first place at 5-0, defeated the Crandall Chargers 91-33 on Wednesday night in Sackville. This comes after an exciting 87-86 road win against MSVU on Sunday.
The Mounties charged out of the gate on Wednesday night, building a commanding 25-4 lead after the 1st quarter. By half time the Mounties had extended their lead to 46-11.
All-Canadian Junior Kiersten Mangold led the Mounties with 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field. Mangold also collected 13 rebounds in 16 minutes of play. Senior Erin Steeves had 13 points and 6 rebounds while Lauren MacEachern also had 13 for the home side.
A pair of former Mounties, Sydnee Balser and Mackenzie McHatten led the way for the Chargers with 10 and 9 points respectively.
The Mounties, who opened the season as the 13th ranked team nationally, have moved up to 7th in the CCAA rankings. The Mounties will host the 2018 CCAA Women's Basketball Championship from March 14th-18th, 2018. This will mark the first time that the CCAA national championship will be played at Mount Allison.
