Mounties ACAA Winning Streak End - Earn Split in Weekend Play

The Mounties Men’s Basketball team earned a split in ACAA action last week with an 84-71 win over the University of Kings Blue Devils and this followed by a heart-breaking loss to the Holland Hurricanes, 76-72.

The Mounties, who had won eight-straight league games, now fall into a three-way first place tie in ACAA and they have dropped to 13th in CCAA national rankings.

The Mounties have seven remaining league games with the next action for the basketball Mounties taking place this Sunday, February 2nd when they hit the road to play their provincial arch-rival; the Crandall Chargers. Game time is 4:00 PM.

Against the Blue Devils last weekend it was third year Forward James French who led the Mounties to their eighth-consecutive league win with a game high 26 points and 16 rebounds. Another leader is second year Forward Sam Pierson who added 12 points and 12 rebounds to the Mounties attack while third year Brett Curtis dropped in 10 points, 3 steals, 2 assists and 3 rebounds. In fact there would be13 lead changes, 13 ties and twice the Mounties hold two separate 7 point leads only to see the Hurricanes hold a 9-point lead with less than 5 minutes remaining. The Mounties took a 1 point lead, 72-71, with under 30 seconds to play before turnovers and missed rebounds in those final seconds enabled the Hurricanes to emerge victorious and earn their eighth win of the season. Leading the Mounties in scoring were Noah McCarthy and Emanuel Adugna with 17 and 16 points respectively. The Mounties 2018-2019 team MVP, Aram Currie, added 12 points for the Mounties who are 8-3 in ACAA standings.
