The Mount Allison men's basketball team over came a slow start and a 13 point deficit early in the first half and came back to defeat the St. Thomas Tommies 88-77 for their first win of the season in the ACAA. The Mounties now sit with a 1-1 record with two games coming up this week. The Mounties travel to Crandall University Nov 7 in a 8pm start and will then host UNBSJ Seawolves on November 11.
Against the Tommies, it was all about the bench scoring for the Mounties who trailed the visitors 27-18 after the first quarter. The Mountie bench would turn the tide in the second quarter coming in to spark the Mounties to a 28-15 run in the second quarter to give the garnet and gold a small 46-42 halftime lead. It was all Mounties in the 3rd quarter out scoring the Tommies 30-18 to give the home team a comfortable lead heading into the final quarter. In all, the Mountie bench came into the game and accounted for 51 points to help the Mounties to the win. Second year forward James French sparked the Mounties (1-1) with 20 points and 10 rebounds including a thunderous second quarter dunk, 4-4 from the three point line and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Riverview's Aram Currie added 17 points while second year guard Brett Curtis added 14 points and Montreal native Yanniv Perez contributed 11. Former Mountie Michael Otto had 15 points for the Tommies (0-3.
