Mount Allison University of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) has been awarded the 2018 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship.
The bid was approved this week by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s Board of Directors. The Championship will be held in Sackville, NB, March 14-17, 2018.
“We are extremely excited to have Mount Allison come forward as host of the 2018 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship,” said Mai-Anh Nguyen, CCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor.
“Their community involvement and excitement to host CCAA Nationals will certainly help make this tournament a great event for all the student-athletes who are fortunate enough to attend.”
The Mount Allison Mounties have twice hosted CCAA events in the past, the 2008 and 2011 CCAA Badminton National Championships. The Mounties recently hosted the 2013 Uteck Bowl, a National U SPORTS football semi-final.
With a new strategic plan, Mount Allison Athletics and Recreation has expressed very deliberate intentions to build a championship culture for their varsity programs. Recently, the Mounties have seen both basketball programs earn national rankings and advance to CCAA National Championships.
The University is a prestigious Canadian institution with a long history of providing high-quality education. It has been recognized by Maclean’s magazine as the top Canadian undergraduate university 18 times — a record unmatched by any other university.
Mount Allison is also proud members of both the ACAA and Atlantic University Sport (AUS) and “Mountie Pride” will certainly be on display during this National Championship.
