WOLFVILLE, N.S. – A blocked field goal with less than five seconds remaining in the game denied the Acadia Axemen their second win of the season as the Mount Allison Mounties stole another Homecoming win from the host Axemen.
With the Mounties playing their third Acadia Homecoming game in a row over the last three seasons, Mount Allison's 15-13 lead with seconds remaining in the game, remained so as the Mounties improve to 2-4 with the win.
The final score reflected the struggle that both teams had in scoring any majors throughout the game.
The Axemen jumped on the board at 5:14 in the first quarter with a safety given up by the Mounties followed by a 26 yard field goal by Brandon Jennings (St. Albert, Alta.) to give Acadia a 5-0 lead.
Jennings and Mountie Ryan Lambert (Grimsby, Ont.) exchanged 26 and 38 yard field goals respectively in the closing minutes of the second quarter to end the first half at 8-3 for the Axemen.
The first and only touchdown of the game came from a nine play, 70 yard drive that was capped by a Jakob Loucks (Cornwall, Ont.) 13 yard toss to Subway Player of the Game Dakota Brush (Brantford, Ont.), giving the Mounties a 10-8 advantage.
The remaining third quarter scoring came from another Acadia safety and 40 yard field goal from Jennings.
Mount Allison added a team safety along with a 40 yard field goal by Lambert to hold onto a 15-13 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in regulation time.
Driving the field 49 yards on five plays with just under a minute remaining, the Axemen were unable to take away a win after Mount Allison after a 34 yard field goal attempt by Jennings was blocked. The block came from the hand of Graham Kelly, a 6'7" freshman Mountie backup QB who was put in specifically to attempt a block.
Both teams were statistically close with Acadia's 334 net yards of offense compared to the Mounties' 323 yards.
Acadia's Subway Player of the Game, Cody Cluett (Cole Harbour, N.S.) was 21 for 45 pass attempts, posting a game-high 242 yards of passing, while Mountie Jakob Loucks posted an efficient 18 receptions on 28 attempts for 192 yards.

The Mounties improve to 2-4 while the Axemen hope wins in the remaining two regular season games will improve their 1-5 record. Acadia hosts the first place StFX X-Men next Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while the Mounties host Saint Mary's in Sackville, N.B.
